Objectives:
  • Child will experience a new sensory activity 
CDA Competency Standard:  
II.4.3a
Activities and materials encourage children to develop their senses
a) Sight, sound, smell, taste and touch experiences are encouraged through a variety of developmentally appropriate materials and activities
Materials: 
  • Three Little Pigs board book   
  • Sensory bin
  • Base material (sand, popcorn kernels, rice, etc)
  • Pig figurines
  • Wolf figurine
  • Bundles of twigs
  • Straw
  • Blocks
  • Drinking straws 
Procedure:  
  1. Read The Three Little Pigs to the children, dramatizing the voices and the events in the story.
  2. Provide close supervision to children while they play with the sensory bin materials and you help them retell parts of the story.
  3. Encourage them to stack up straw and twigs and then “blow them down” by blowing through the drinking straws.   

Assessment: 
  • Observe and record the child’s reaction to the textures and elements of the story.
