​Preschool children are at an age where peer interactions are important but so is the relationship that they have with adults. Some preschool children begin to experience behavior challenges including tantrums, aggression, separation anxiety and more. It is important to consider the child’s temperament and developmental stage along with other specifics. Some preschool children have more tantrums and meltdowns during this age than they did during toddlerhood. Others will show bossy or even defiant behavior toward children and adults alike. It is best to remain positive and work through the challenging behavior while still recognizing the positive aspects of the child’s behavior.

​This example is common in a preschool classroom and while it can pose a challenge for some educators, it is important to consider the whole child and all domains of development when working with this child. His teacher may use redirection, distraction, peer help, or countless other methods to encourage him to line up for recess with the rest of his classmates.
