The area that sees the most astounding development during early childhood is the brain. Neurodevelopment within the early part of a child’s life has a profound effect on their lifelong health and happiness. Children with prolonged or toxic stressful periods of their childhood show evidence of having negatively impacted futures due to limited brain development. Positive relationships, support during stressful times, social interactions, and opportunities for learning are positive supports to brain development.

The video below is of Dr. Megan Gunnar who is a Regents Professor and Associate Director of the Center for Neurobehavioral Development and Director of the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota. She explains brain development and the supports that young children need to build healthy brains for their entire life.
