Evaluate and Compare Your Response
Here is how other students answered this question:

1. Consider a typical morning routine for Rodney. What does it usually entail and what skills, habits, or thought processes are necessary in order for him to complete the routine? How does Executive Function play a role?

It was unclear as to whether he wakes up via an alarm clock or a parent wakes him. If the clock, there's one thing to remember. Getting to the bus on time seems stressful for him in the mornings as his thoughts are disorganized. Anything he could do to help that, such as visual cues, a schedule, putting things in the same spot every time, would all help the morning be less of an issue. Due to executive function-related issues, internally he has difficulty structuring and planning so anything external and visual could help with this.

Getting on the bus seems to be a stress trigger for Rodney, as well as remember things for school. He has a hard time with impulse control and needs to adopt better sleeping habits.

Rodney struggles with his mornings and depending on the night before, he may benefit from more sleep. As for his routine, he needs a checklist for what he should do in the morning and in the afternoon/evening. Verbal cues from his parents can help, though as a parent, I know kids don’t always want to hear that. Without a plan or schedule it makes sense that he’s getting lost in his daily life.

Rodney's schedule could benefit greatly from organization changes that could positively impact his daily routine. A lot of the days issue can begin with a bad start to the morning. If Rodney had designated places for his necessities such as his backpack, he would eliminate the risk of being late to school. If his morning goes smoother, his day may follow and his instinct to organize the rest of his day and evening at home will then follow.
